Shelter in Lubań
Lubań, Poland, 2022
The design concept focuses on creating a space that exists in symbiosis with the surrounding nature, allowing users to fully experience and enjoy the local environment. The central theme of the project is the roof—as an archetype of shelter.
In his book On the Construction of Architectural Form, Juliusz Żórawski writes: "The vertical, the horizontal, the right angle, the square, the circle, and the sphere are not forms given to us externally, borrowed from nature, or acquired through long experience, but seem to dwell within us, as if they were created and conceived by humans, forming an integral part of us. The aesthetics of construction have largely explored geometry in an effort to discover the principles of beauty through this approach." The author seeks a solid that appeals to people, emphasizing the tendency toward centralization and coherent forms.
In the developed design, the roof structure was designed as a coherent form, symbolizing a shelter where all tourists can find refuge.
