Sustainable multi-family housing project

Montijo, Portugal, 2025

City Among Gardens is a project that reimagines the center of Montijo—currently characterized by empty streets, scattered trees, and vast parking lots—as a vibrant, green urban environment. Inspired by the city's historical layers and challenging climate conditions, the project focuses on revitalizing the sun-drenched city center. The project transforms abandoned buildings into gardens, creating a continuous system of parks that connects to surrounding cities via a coastal bike path. The key objective is to revitalize Montijo's main settlement road and integrate it into a network of new, vibrant streets. The site is located between the main square and the central park, surrounded by two churches.

The disused building has been transformed into an open gateway, creating a new connection between neighborhoods. The project is rooted in greenery and focused on strengthening the relationship between people, history, and landscape.
